Our School Sport Partnership

Our partnership represents a collaborative group of 49 rural schools across the East & Central Hampshire towns of Alton, Bordon, Liphook, New Alresford and Petersfield. We strive to increase the quality and provision of school sport and physical education opportunities available for all children in our area between the ages of 5-19.

Each of our Infant, Junior, Primary and Special Educational Needs partner schools has a nominated Primary Link PE Teacher (PLT) who is directly supported by a School Sport Co-ordinator (SSCo) from their local secondary school PE department. Their role is to help increase the range and diversity of activities for all children in and beyond the curriculum through the co-ordinated use of teacher training and by forming links with local clubs and coaches. Each local school group is refered to as a Family of Schools. The entire programme is lead by a Partnership Development Manager (PDM) who is often based at a local Sports College.

Since our launch in 2002 we have successfully used this model to more than quadruple the number of children having access to 2 hours of weekly sports activity from 22% to 92%. The current national figures sits at 90%.

This programme forms part of the Governments Public Service Agreement (click here to read full details on PSA 22) to develop 5 hours of high quality sporting provision each week for all children between the ages of 5 and 16, and 3 hours between the ages of 16 - 19, to improve the health of the nation and provide a sustainable legacy to the 2012 London Olympic games and beyond.
